New security concerns surrounding the World Cup, FBI drone hack claims by Iran-linked group

New security concerns have arisen around the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup. A hacker group known to be close to Iran has claimed to have access to some drone systems used by the US intelligence agency FBI. At the same time, they have also hinted at possible cyber and drone attacks during the World Cup.
According to various international media reports, the group named "Handala" has claimed that they have been monitoring certain surveillance technologies for a long time and have been able to collect some sensitive information. Their statements have also been accompanied by threats targeting the World Cup security system.
However, cybersecurity analysts have not yet found any reliable evidence for this claim. According to relevant monitoring organizations, some of the videos and information released by the group may be old or unverified.
Meanwhile, law enforcement and security agencies have already increased surveillance of the stadium and surrounding areas ahead of the World Cup to be held in the United States. Advanced technology and special security measures have been adopted to prevent unauthorized drone flights in particular.
According to analysts, the threat of cyber attacks surrounding major international sporting events is not new. However, due to recent geopolitical tensions, such threats are being considered more seriously.
Security experts say that during the World Cup, not only the security of the field, but also the digital infrastructure, communication systems and the protection of the information of spectators will become equally important. Therefore, the host country and related organizations are on the highest alert.
Currently, an investigation is underway into the claims of the hacker group and US authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
