Russia has launched a new wave of missile and drone strikes on the Ukrainian capital Kiev. The attack, which began late Sunday night (May 24) local time, caused panic in various parts of the capital with the sound of explosions. At least three people were injured in the attack and several residential buildings were damaged, according to local administrations.
Shortly before the attack, the Ukrainian Air Force issued a warning of a possible ballistic missile attack. After that, there were reports of a series of explosions across the capital. Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that buildings were damaged in several areas of the city and a fire broke out in the premises of a school due to missile debris.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that intelligence had been received that Russia was preparing a major attack. He claimed that similar information had been received from Ukrainian, US and European sources as well.
However, Ukrainian authorities have not yet confirmed whether any specific type of missile was used in the attack. Meanwhile, Russia is seeing the latest attack as a counter-measure to the war situation in the east.
Analysts believe that this new attack has further heated up the Ukraine-Russia conflict amid the ongoing war.
