The Iranian government has declared three days of national mourning on Sunday (January 11) in memory of those killed in the ongoing violent protests against the severe economic crisis. The president and cabinet are observing the mourning, the presidential office said. According to a Geo News report, the national mourning is being observed in honor of those killed during Iran's resistance movement against the US and Israeli governments.
The official statement said that the Iranian nation has seen how criminals like Daesh (ISIS/ISIL) have targeted civilians, volunteers and police officers, resulting in many martyrs. In this situation, the Iranian government is observing this mourning to honor the martyrs.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the government and security agencies are working to quickly restore internet connectivity. Internet connections in embassies and government ministries will also be restored soon. Araghchi also accused US President Donald Trump of inciting the protests.
Meanwhile, the Iranian government called for national support demonstrations on Monday. In an interview with state broadcaster IRIB, President Masoud Pezeshkian said the government was ready to address economic problems but would show zero tolerance for rioters.
