A tense situation has arisen again on the India-Bangladesh border. An Indian Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was shot while on duty in the Maheshpur border area of Dharmanagar subdivision of Tripura, India's northeastern state. The name of the shot jawan is Bipin Kumar (35). He was working in the 97th battalion of the BSF.
Sources said that the BSF jawan was suddenly shot while performing regular patrolling and border security duties. However, no clear information has been received yet about how or from which direction the shooting occurred. Immediately after the incident, extreme tension spread in the border area.
Colleagues quickly rescued Bipin Kumar in a shot condition and took him to the Dharmanagar subdivisional hospital. When his condition deteriorated there, he was shifted to GB Hospital in Agartala for better treatment. He is currently undergoing treatment there.
Prasun Bhattacharjee, medical officer of Dharmanagar Subdistrict Hospital, told reporters that two gunshot wounds were found on the injured jawan's body. Although his condition is critical, doctors said that he has stabilized somewhat after initial treatment.
Security has been tightened in the border area after the incident. Additional BSF personnel have been deployed to control the situation and an investigation into the entire incident has been launched. However, no official statement has been received from the local office of the BSF or the Delhi headquarters in this regard yet.
Meanwhile, panic and anxiety prevail in the border area due to the firing incident. Although administration sources have claimed that the situation is currently under control and strict surveillance is continuing in the border area.
