Tarique Rahman's return: US Embassy issues warning

The US Embassy in Dhaka has issued a travel warning for US citizens in Bangladesh in view of the return of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman.
Tarique Rahman is returning home next Thursday (December 25). The US Embassy issued this warning in a message on Sunday (December 21) as there is a possibility of large crowds and traffic jams in Dhaka on this occasion.
The message said that according to media reports, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has planned a large rally on the Purbachal Expressway (300 feet road) in Dhaka city and the roads from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Gulshan from 11:45 am on December 25.
Due to this, the embassy has expressed concern that severe traffic jams may occur in the capital Dhaka and surrounding areas during that time. Those planning to travel to or from Dhaka city on that day are advised to allow extra time and use alternative routes if possible.
Passengers using Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport have also been instructed to carry their flight tickets and necessary travel documents with them. They have been asked to be ready to present these documents at police checkpoints if required.
