60 employees of the Singapore office of TikTok's parent company ByteDance fell ill due to food poisoning. 57 of these officials who fell ill on Tuesday were admitted to the hospital. Officials from Singapore's Department of Health and Food Safety are investigating the incident. ByteDance has also said that it is separately investigating the case of its employees falling ill.
According to the BBC report, no food is prepared or cooked in ByteDance's offices. They procure food for workers from third parties.
Local media reported that 17 ambulances were dispatched to take the sick from the Bytedance building in Singapore's business district to hospital.
A ByteDance spokesperson said they take the health and safety of staff very seriously. Immediate measures have been taken to assist all the sick workers. Also, they are investigating the matter and working with all relevant authorities.
TikTok cannot be used in China. But the short-lived app has more than 1 billion active users worldwide.
