The outbreak of measles in the country has increased at an alarming rate, causing extreme panic among parents. In the last 19 days, 94 children have died with measles symptoms, and 5,792 children have been infected. This information has been confirmed by the Directorate General of Health Services.
To deal with the situation, the government has completed preparations to start a nationwide vaccination program on an emergency basis. This program will start from next Sunday. To make the program successful, all types of leaves of the concerned doctors and health workers have been canceled.
Health experts say that if children are not vaccinated as per the scheduled time after birth, the risk of contracting complex diseases such as measles and pneumonia increases. Therefore, ensuring timely vaccination is very important.
Health Minister Sardar Sakhawat Hossain Bakul has said that the vaccination program will be implemented with utmost importance and no child will be left out of it.
Public health experts believe that the current situation has arisen due to negligence in vaccination in the past. The affected families have demanded strict action against those responsible for this.
Meanwhile, 4 more children have died in Chittagong and Cox's Bazar in the last 24 hours. At the same time, 947 children in eight divisions including Dhaka have been admitted to hospitals with measles symptoms. Out of these, 42 have been diagnosed with measles in their bodies.
Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services, Professor Dr. Prabhat Kumar Biswas, said that measles treatment has been ensured across the country, including the capital. He said that even though everyone admitted to the hospital with symptoms is not infected with measles, treatment is being provided after confirming it through tests.
However, although the situation is worrying, the concerned parties have urged people not to panic unnecessarily and to focus on awareness and timely vaccination.
