Hind Rajab, who was just six years old, had a dream of living her life to the fullest. But she was killed in an Israeli attack last year. The recording of her terrifying and longing voice is touching the hearts of people around the world today.
This year, three films have been made about Hind, the most talked about of which is ‘The Voice of Hind Rajab’. The film, which was screened at the Venice Film Festival and won the Grand Jury Prize, does not feature the child in any frame; only moments of her horrific experience are captured through audio throughout the film.
The key scene in the film takes place when Hind and her 15-year-old cousin Lian are trapped in a car. The car is attacked by Israeli tanks. The child calls out in fear for rescuers, but the connection is repeatedly cut off due to gunfire. Although members of the Red Crescent tried to comfort her, Hind ultimately could not survive.
Her body was recovered 12 days later. A film made from the audio recording of this brutal incident will not only bring Hind back, but will also carry her voice across borders and call for justice to all peoples of the world.
“The film will not bring Hind back, but it will capture her voice and spread its echoes until justice is done,” said director Kawther Ben Hania.
