Illegal Stone Crushing Machines on the Highway Cause Severe Distress for Banglabandha

The Tetulia–Banglabandha highway in Panchagarh has become a major challenge for the public. From the Banglabandha BGB Camp to the zero point of the land port, hundreds of illegal stone crushing machines have been installed along both sides of the road. Every day, local commuters, travelers, and transport vehicles face extreme inconvenience due to the dust, smoke, and loud noise generated by these machines, making normal travel nearly impossible.
Along this section of the Tetulia–Banglabandha land port road, traders conducting loading, unloading, netting, and crushing activities have installed their stone crushing machines directly on the highway. As a result, pedestrians and travelers are forced to navigate through clouds of dust. According to the Banglabandha Land Port Immigration Authority, around 200 to 250 passengers cross through the port daily. However, from the zero point to the Banglabandha bus stand, travelers endure a very difficult journey due to the dust and continuous operation of the crushing machines.
Meanwhile, thousands of workers operate the stone crushing machines without proper health protection. Working long hours without necessary masks, helmets, or other safety equipment, they are exposed to various illnesses and physical health problems. Many workers rely on local chemists and rural doctors, purchasing harmful painkillers for temporary relief.
Tetulia Upazila Executive Officer Afroza Shahin Khosru stated that workers have been advised to spray water to reduce the dust while working. She added that if traders fail to follow these instructions, appropriate action will be taken against them. She expressed hope that with timely and effective measures, a safe and normal environment for both travelers and workers on the highway can be restored.
