ACC case against former councilor Helal in Pabna

ACC filed a case against Helal Uddin (55), a former councilor of Ward No. 4 of Sirajganj Municipality, on charges of concealing information about wealth acquisition and providing false information and possessing assets inconsistent with the known income.
The case was filed today Tuesday (October 15) at noon by District Office of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in Pabna, Deputy Assistant Director Md. Manowar Hossain. The accused former councilor Helal Uddin is the son of deceased Abdul Mannan of Sayadhangarh North Bhasani Road Mohalla of Sirajganj town.
According to the statement of the case, ACC ordered Helal Uddin and his wife to submit the asset statement on September 18, 2023 as allegations of acquiring assets inconsistent with the declared income were evident in the preliminary investigation. On October 23 of the same year, he filed the statement of assets. Then on November 27, Manowar Hossain, deputy assistant director of the ACC integrated district office, was appointed as the investigation officer.
While verifying the asset statement, the investigating officer found out that Helal Uddin had hidden the information of acquisition of assets worth Tk 34 lakh 74 thousand 502 in his submitted asset statement and provided false information. Besides, he has acquired illegal assets worth Tk 42 lakh 94 thousand 746 outside the known income. By this, Helal Uddin has committed an offense punishable under section 26(2) and 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004.
ACC Pabna Deputy Assistant Director Manowar Hossain said that after the investigation report was sent to the ACC Dhaka head office, the filing of the case against Helal Uddin was approved on September 30. Following this, a case was filed at the ACC Pabna office on Tuesday (October 15).
