About 2 crore hilsa fish were sold and bought in Madaripur in a few hours of one night. The Hilsa fishing festival is held from Saturday afternoon to 12 midnight at Puranbazar fish market, Iterpur market, Mustafapur fish store and Tekerhat port of Rajair upazila. The fish traders claim that this has happened because the sale and marketing of hilsa will be stopped for the next 22 days. And in the footsteps of buyers and sellers, there was a rush to buy hilsa due to these fish. In one night, the whole of Madaripur became full of excitement.

Since Saturday afternoon, the shopkeepers have arranged stalls with hilsa fish at Puranbazar fish market in Madaripur town. Buyers also started coming to buy small and large size hilsa. The crowd of women as well as men was eye-catching. When the night is deep, there is no mole like mole on the whole fish. The union of fish and man turns into a whole fair. That is why the locals have been calling it Hilsa Fair. However, buyers claim that the price of hilsa has increased this year compared to last year. Hilsa fish was sold at the fair from Tk 500 to Tk 2000 per kg.
