A young man has gone missing after he drowned in the Brahmaputra river while taking a bath in the Chilmari naval port area of ​​Kurigram. The incident took place at Chilmari Naubandar Ghat area of ​​the upazila around 6 pm on Friday.

The name of the missing youth is Sohan (22). He is the son of Raja Mia of Sarai Jummapara area of ​​Haragach Municipality of Kaunia Upazila of Rangpur and is said to be the father of one child in his married life.

It is known that Sohan drowned in the strong current while taking a bath from Haragach to Chilmari river port. Later, not being able to see him anymore, the people around him rushed to Chillachilli. After receiving information, police and fire service reached the spot. After a long search, the fire service ended the job without finding him. He was not found until Saturday afternoon.

Tuhin Arafat (28), who came with the missing Sohan, said that everyone came to visit the Chilmari naval port in the evening. Then Sohan wanted to bathe in the river, but we all forbade him, but he jumped into the river and crossed a bulkhead there and went 17-18 feet away. When a local threw a bamboo to pick him up, he could not catch it. Even though it is Saturday afternoon, he has not been found yet.

Narayan Verma, station in-charge of Chilmari Fire Service, said, "It was not possible to carry out the rescue operation as it was night." On Saturday morning (Oct 5), a team of divers arrived to search for the missing youth. The young man has not been found yet.

Chilmari Naval Police Station SI Ferdous Alam said that the police are at the scene and the rescue work is going on. It is initially known that they came to the Ghat with some friends.
