Since there is no government initiative to prevent erosion, the villagers are trying to prevent it by their own initiative. They complained repeatedly to the government office, but they did not get any solution. In this situation, the residents of Kaljani river bank of Dudhkumar branch of Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram are trying to prevent erosion by buying plastic items with their subscription money and filling them with sand.

Seen on the surface. Some are filling sand with plastic material, some are throwing it on the river bank. In this way, the Kablits tried to protect their houses and crops. For the last 4 months, continuous erosion of Dudhkumar river is going on in Dakshin Dhaldanga village of Shilkuri union bordering Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram. In the meantime, more than three hundred houses and acre after acre of cropland have been destroyed. In this situation, the people affected by the erosion repeatedly contacted the local water development board along with the public representatives, but they did not get any remedy. Later, without any means, they try to protect their wealth by voluntarily preventing bankruptcy with their own money.
The locals claim that apart from their efforts, if they get a little help from the Water Development Board, the erosion will stop. And this will save the house with fossil land.
Manched Ali of Dakshin Dhaldanga area of Shilkuri union of the upazila said, we are finally working after failing to contact various government departments to prevent the erosion of our eraka. I am buying plastic items by collecting money from the villagers and filling them with sand and throwing them in the river. Even after that, erosion cannot be prevented.
AKM Faridul Haque, former chairman of Tilai Union Parishad of Bhurungamari Upazila, said that the Dudhkumar river in this area has been continuously breaking for the past 2-3 months. About 300 houses were lost in the river. Hundreds of hectares of fossil land have gone into the river along with crops. If the erosion is not prevented, there are three camps where there is electricity, everything will be damaged. I wish the government's good will for the border residents here.
Executive Engineer, Kurigram Water Development Board

Md. Rakibul Hasan admitted the erosion of Dudhkumar in Shilkuri area and other rivers and said that they are not able to take measures to prevent erosion due to lack of allocation or permission. Generally not allowed to work for agricultural land and small houses. He said that if there is a government establishment, some work permit is obtained.
In the last four months, thousands of families have lost their homes and crop lands due to the erosion of Brahmaputra, Dharla and Teesta along with Dudhkumar in the district. The victims hope that the government will take permanent measures to prevent erosion.
