Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman is currently admitted to the capital's United Hospital. On Wednesday (July 30), doctors identified five major blocks in his heart. Immediately after this, a decision was made to perform bypass surgery immediately, said his personal assistant Mohammad Nazrul Islam.

Nazrul Islam said that on July 19, during a party rally at Suhrawardy Udyan, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman fell ill on stage while giving a speech. Since then, he has been undergoing regular physical examinations. Last Wednesday, an angiogram was conducted at United Hospital under the supervision of cardiologist Dr. Mominuzzaman, and five blocks were detected in the heart. The doctors recommended bypass surgery rather than angioplasty.

Although the issue of taking the Jamaat Ameer abroad was initially considered, he himself rejected it. He said, “I have full faith in the country’s medical system.”

It is learnt that a board of expert doctors has already been formed for the bypass surgery. The open heart surgery is scheduled to be completed at United Hospital next Saturday (August 3). After the news spread, more than a hundred cardiologists and doctors from different parts of the country rushed to the hospital to see him.

It is learnt that the general public, including party leaders and activists, are praying for the speedy recovery of the Jamaat Ameer across the country.
