A rare giant pangas fish, weighing 25 kg, has been caught in the Padma River in Goalanda Upazila of Rajbari! The price of this fish has risen to more than half a million taka. The fish was sold at an auction in the Daulatdia Ferry Ghat area of Goalanda on Friday morning for 57,500 taka.
It is learned that local fisherman Bachchu Halder cast a net in the Padma River with his companions on Thursday night. The giant pangas was caught in their net on Friday morning. Later, the fish was taken to a local shop and an auction was organized.
Taking part in the auction, shopkeeper and fish trader Md. Shahjahan Sheikh of the Daulatdia Ferry Ghat area bought the fish for 2,300 taka per kg. The total price was 57,500 taka.
Shahjahan Sheikh said, “I bought a 25 kg pangasius fish at an auction. Later, I contacted various buyers and sold it to a businessman for a small profit.”
In this regard, Rajbari District Fisheries Officer Md. Nazmul Huda said, “Currently, large pangasius fish are being caught in the Padma, which is very popular locally. However, we request the fishermen to be careful not to get dolphins and bagaid fish caught in the nets used to catch pangasius.”
He also said, “Padma fish is incomparable in taste, so its market price is usually high. Finding such a large pangasius is really a rare event.”
There has been great enthusiasm among the locals about the fish. Many are also taking pictures of the fish and sharing them on social media. This huge pangasius once again reminded us of the fame of Padma fish.
