Society for Social Service (SSS), a non-governmental development organization in Tangail, has announced a donation of 6 crores to help those affected by the recent severe floods in the country. In this regard, 1 crore was given to the relief and welfare fund of the Chief Adviser on Tuesday. This was informed in a press conference at the head office of SSS in Tangail on Tuesday afternoon.
In a written statement at the press conference, the senior director of the organization, Santosh Chandra Pal, said that most of the surrounding districts including Feni, Noakhali, Comilla are under water. Millions of people are living an inhumane life. In such a critical situation of the country, SSS is working with relief assistance to stand by the flood victims. Following this, one crore rupees has been given to the Chief Adviser's relief fund. And the remaining 5 crore rupees are being spent directly on the relief of the flood victims. The officers and employees of the organization have been collectively given one day's salary and money allocated from the budget of the organization.
He also said that initially 10,000 packets will be given to these flood affected areas. Each packet contains 5 kg of rice, 3 kg of potatoes, 1 kg of pulses, 1 liter of oil, sugar, chira, salt, biscuits, dates and milk powder for children, food saline, candles and lighters etc. This relief distribution program has started from last Thursday. It will continue until the situation improves. In addition to ongoing microfinance loans, there is a plan to disburse Rs 30 crore distress and courage loans on easy terms to overcome the crisis.
Joint Director of the institution Aminul Islam Khan, Deputy Director SM Yahia, Assistant Director Shamchul Arefin and Assistant Director Faisal Ahmed were present in the press conference.
