The United Arab Emirates government jailed 57 Bangladeshis for protesting in Dubai in support of the anti-discrimination movement in Bangladesh. The interim government of Bangladesh has appointed lawyers to free these expatriate workers.

This information was confirmed through a notice signed by the UAE Mission Chief Muhammad Mizanur Rahman on Monday.
The notice signed by the head of the mission said that the government of Bangladesh had appointed lawyer Olora Afrin to free 57 Bangladeshis jailed in the Dubai protests. The Bangladesh Embassy in the United Arab Emirates will assist lawyer Olora Afrin regarding these 57 people.
Meanwhile, the Foundation for Law and Development (FLAD) has started providing legal assistance to these workers before the appointment of a lawyer by the Bangladeshi government. This information has been confirmed by Flood through a statement sent to the media.
Barrister Kazi Maruful Alam, Director of FLOOD's Law and Research Department, said in a statement that none of the workers detained in Dubai were aware of the country's laws. In order to free these workers, we have contacted Consultant Advocate Zakia Akhter, appointed in United Arab Emirates.
We have also contacted two law firms in the United Arab Emirates. In addition to this communication, Flood has sent letters of support to the Solidarity Center, Amnesty International and the Human Rights Commission in Geneva.
He also said in the statement that the protesting Bangladeshi workers were tried and sentenced within 48 hours. Bangladesh Embassy did not play any role due to ongoing political unrest in the country at that time. However, the Bangladesh Embassy has informed that the Bangladesh Embassy is working on this matter on a priority basis to help the workers. But there is no visible result yet in terms of the release of the workers. Therefore, the human rights organization FLOOD is drawing the attention of the concerned department of the current government.
