Participating in the discussion on the proposed budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year in the National Parliament, Kishoreganj-4 constituency MP and valiant freedom fighter Fazlur Rahman demanded an increase in the monthly honorarium of freedom fighters.
He said that in the current budget, the monthly honorarium of freedom fighters has been kept at 20 thousand taka as before. According to him, since the Liberation War is the most glorious achievement in the history of the country, special importance needs to be given to the honor and facilities of freedom fighters.
In his speech, he mentioned that various types of allowances have been allocated for the families of martyrs and injured in the July Movement, which he sees as positive. However, he urged not to compare the honorarium of freedom fighters with any other allowance.
Fazlur Rahman said that the contribution of freedom fighters is unique to the nation. Therefore, their honorarium should be increased, at least symbolically. He said, even if the increase is small, it will be an expression of the state's respect and recognition towards the freedom fighters.
He also said, to maintain the honor and dignity of the freedom fighters in the future, it is necessary to consider more appropriate allocation for them in the budget. In his speech in the parliament, he drew the government's attention to this issue.
