Zain Marie Khan, niece of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, has revealed injury marks on various parts of her body after being detained by the police while participating in a protest in Mumbai. In a video shared on social media, she displayed injuries on her hands, fingers, and legs. She also raised questions regarding the use of intimidation and the creation of panic.
On Sunday (October 11), Zain Marie posted an Instagram Reel. In the video, she showed the injuries on her body to the camera and commented on the issue of intimidation. The core message of her statement was that people should not be intimidated to such an extent that they eventually lose all sense of fear.
The actress also alluded to her experience in the video's caption. Her post brought renewed attention to the detention of protesters in Mumbai.
Earlier, on Saturday (October 10), Zain Marie Khan was detained by the police while attempting to join a protest at Mumbai's August Kranti Maidan. She was accompanied by actor Imran Khan and his girlfriend, Lekha Washington.
They had gathered there to support a protest organized by the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP). However, the police detained them in connection with the event. All three were released after a few hours.
Zain remained active on social media even while in custody. She posted a photo on Instagram taken with Imran and Lekha from inside the police van.
In the caption, the actress raised the slogan "Inquilab Zindabad" (Long live the revolution). Imran Khan was also seen smiling and flashing a victory sign in the photo.
After their release, Zain and Lekha updated their followers on Instagram about their situation. The following day, Zain Marie released a new video showing the injury marks on her body. However, the exact cause of the injuries could not be independently verified.
The protest was organized primarily due to the controversy surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of India's voter list. The 'Cockroach Janata Party' has alleged irregularities in the voter list revision process. Citing these allegations, the organization has been demanding the resignation of the country's Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar; however, the Election Commission has denied the claims of irregularities.
Imran Khan attended the event in Mumbai to show solidarity with this demand, write Washington and Jane Mary Khan.
The Mumbai protest and the role of the police have come under renewed scrutiny following the release of a video by the actress after her detention, which showed visible signs of injury and featured her statement.
