There is extreme tension among students and guardians at Milestone College in Uttara, the capital, after a military plane crashed and killed a student. In protest of this incident, students organized a peaceful protest at the college's roundabout at 10 am on Tuesday (July 22). The students organizing the protest said that their program will be completely non-violent and democratic. However, they will not compromise on injustice. Keeping in mind the slogan "No fear, we want justice," they have raised six-point demands, which have now become the mainstay of the students' protest.
The six demands raised by the students include: disclosure of the exact names and identities of those killed in the accident, publication of an accurate and complete list of the injured, unconditional public apology for the allegations of the army members 'raising their hands' on the teachers at the scene, appropriate compensation from the Air Force to the families of each student killed, cancellation of the old and risky aircraft used by the Air Force and introduction of safer planes, and reorganization of the Air Force's training areas and methods in a humane and safe manner.
Not only students, but also parents have expressed solidarity with the movement. Many parents have come to the college premises and demanded the safety and justice of their children. According to them, conducting risky military training activities near educational institutions is in no way acceptable, and it is a big threat to the future.
On the other hand, no official statement has been received from the college administration or the Air Force so far. This is increasing the anger among the students and parents. The students said that if their six-point demands are not implemented quickly, they will take up a bigger program and will call on students across the country to join the movement.
