Ershad's ex-wife sentenced to two years in prison in flat fraud case

A court has sentenced former President HM Ershad's ex-wife, Bidisha Siddique, to two years in prison in a case filed on charges of fraud over the sale of a flat.
A Dhaka court announced the verdict on Wednesday (May 20). At the same time, she has been fined Tk 10,000. The verdict states that if she fails to pay the fine, she will have to serve another month of simple imprisonment.
According to court sources, Bidisha Siddique was not present in the court when the verdict was announced. An arrest warrant along with a sentence warrant has been issued against her as she is absconding.
According to sources in the case, a businessman filed a case in 2008 alleging complications and fraud related to the sale of a residential flat in the capital's Baridhara area. The court gave the verdict after a long judicial process.
People involved in the case said that the court made this decision based on a review of various aspects of the complaint and evidence.
