In a speech at the G-7 summit, US President Donald Trump sparked a discussion on Israel-US relations. He claimed that Israel's position in the Middle East would not have been so strong without Washington's long-standing political and military support.
At a side meeting of the summit held in France, Trump said that the United States has supported Israel's security and diplomatic position for years. According to him, US support has played an important role in strengthening the country's security structure.
After the recent diplomatic agreement between the United States and Iran, there are signs of a change in the political equation in the Middle East. According to analysts, this situation has also brought to the fore some policy differences between Washington and Tel Aviv.
During his speech, Trump also expressed concern about the ongoing military situation in Lebanon. He said that the safety of civilians in conflict areas must be given utmost importance and humanitarian considerations should be taken into account in any military action.
However, he also made it clear that his personal relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remains positive. Although he indicated that the two sides may have differences of opinion on some issues of regional security and military operations.
Recent diplomatic developments in the Middle East, the Iran-US dialogue, and regional security issues continue to be discussed in the international arena. Trump's comments have added a new dimension to those discussions.
