Police have arrested BNP leader Niamat Hossain alias Parvez as a warranted accused in a case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act in Alfadanga, Faridpur. He was later sent to jail on the orders of the court.

He was arrested from Panipara area of ​​Buraich union of the upazila on Tuesday (May 19) afternoon, police said.

According to police sources, Niamat Hossain was filed a case against his wife Roksana Begum under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, alleging dowry demand. He was arrested in a drive based on an arrest warrant issued by the court in that case.

Locally known as Niamat Hossain, he is serving as the publicity secretary of Alfadanga Upazila BNP. He was also the deputy general secretary of Faridpur district Chhatra Dal and former general secretary of Upazila Chhatra Dal.

Regarding the incident, Upazila BNP General Secretary Nur Jamal Khasru said that such an incident is uncomfortable for the party and it can have a negative impact on the party's image. He also said that an organizational decision will be taken on the matter.

The officer-in-charge of Alfadanga Police Station said that after the arrest as per the court's order, he was sent to jail after completing the necessary legal process.
