National Ophthalmology Hospital closed for fourth consecutive day: Patients' suffering is extreme

The National Ophthalmology Institute and Hospital in Dhaka, where thousands of patients come for treatment every day, is closed for the fourth consecutive day today. General patients and their relatives are in extreme distress as medical services are completely shut down.
On Saturday (May 31), it was seen that the two main gates of the hospital were closed. The police members in charge of security are spending their time idly inside. There is hardly any presence of doctors or nurses inside.
A patient, Swapan, came to the hospital with his son Alamin and returned disappointed. He said, "I came with my son's eye problem, but no one was there. I don't know what to do."
On the other hand, 60-year-old Rekha Begum said, "I had an eye operation here. I came on Thursday, but no one was there. I came again today, but the situation is the same."
Sources say that more than a hundred fighters injured in the July mass movement are currently staying inside the hospital. Although there are 2-1 people to cook for them, there are no doctors, nurses or other staff present. Basically, last Wednesday, the hospital staff were attacked by protesters while observing a strike demanding security. At least 15 people were injured in this. Since then, the frightened doctors and nurses left the hospital and the protesters took control of the hospital.
In this situation, thousands of patients are being deprived of medical services. Many are at serious risk as daily routine checkups, operations, medicines and emergency treatment are closed.
Now the question arises - why are the concerned administration and the health ministry silent in such an emergency situation?
The people expect that the hospital should be reopened by taking quick measures and the safety of the doctors and nurses should be ensured.
More News BD is drawing the attention of the higher authorities of the administration to this crisis and requesting them to take urgent action.
