After the fall of the autocratic Sheikh Hasina government, a number of senior police officials, including ministers, members of parliament, leaders and workers of various levels of the party, are going into hiding to avoid public anger and to avoid arrest.
In the meantime, many have left the country by crossing the border secretly. Some victims of fraud are even arrested while escaping by 'managing' brokers and immigration. Some even paid crores of rupees to enter India with the help of broker syndicates.
Except for a few former ministers, most people chose the Indian border to leave the country. They used Jessore, Brahmanbaria, Comilla, Habiganj, Sylhet, Hili in Dinajpur and Banglabandha border in Panchagarh to migrate. Several gangs have formed at different borders for their crossing.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader was not excluded from this list. Sheikh Hasina left for Jessore at midnight on August 5 after escaping. There he was sheltered in an important safe place. The next day he crossed the border under special guard, said several responsible sources in Jessore and Benapole. However, they did not agree to reveal their identity.
