The Bangladesh women's cricket team suffered a 3-0 whitewash in the three-match ODI series against Australia. Nigar Sultana Joty's team lost the final match of the series in Brisbane by 8 wickets, allowing the hosts, Australia, to clinch the series.
On Wednesday (October 14), Bangladesh batted first after losing the toss at Brisbane's Allan Border Field. Facing disciplined Australian bowling, the 'Tigresses' were bowled out for 172 runs in 49.5 overs.
For Bangladesh, Shorna Akter scored 54 off 71 balls, and Sharmin Akter Supta contributed 50 runs. Australian pacer Megan Schutt claimed 4 wickets for just 16 runs in her 10 overs, five of which were maidens.
Chasing a target of 173, Australia lost both openers early on. Sultana Khatun dismissed Georgia Voll for 11, while debutant pacer Disha Biswas bowled out Beth Mooney, who had scored 21 runs.
However, the hosts faced no further trouble thanks to the brilliant batting of Ellyse Perry and Annabel Sutherland. They secured the win by forging an unbroken 137-run partnership for the third wicket.
Perry remained unbeaten on 65 off 64 balls, and Sutherland on 74 off 52 balls. Australia reached the target of 175 for the loss of 2 wickets in just 22.4 overs.
Megan Schutt was named both Player of the Match and Player of the Series for her outstanding bowling performance; she put the most pressure on the Bangladeshi batting lineup, taking 10 wickets across the three matches.
With this defeat, Bangladesh concluded their tour of Australia without a single victory in the three-match ODI series.
