During Durga Puja, demand for hilsa increases in West Bengal, India. Hilsa is also considered by many as one of the accessories of worship. Before this Durga Puja, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina used to send hilsa to the people of Kolkata. However, this time Bangladesh will not send hilsa to West Bengal for puja.

This has raised fears that the price of hilsa will increase in Kolkata. Besides, they will also be deprived of the taste of Padma Hilsa of Bangladesh. Fish and Livestock Adviser of the Interim Government Farida Akhtar said that it will be ensured that Hindus and other citizens of Bangladesh can eat hilsa during this Durgo Festival. The people of the country will be given priority over India.

In an interview given to Indian media News-18 on Friday, the adviser said, "We apologize, but we cannot send any hilsa to India." It is an expensive fish. We have seen that people of our country cannot eat hilsa. Because all are shipped to India. Those that remain are expensive. We also celebrate Durgotsavam. Our people can also eat it.'
