A case has been filed in the name of 230 people, including the president and general secretary of Tangail district Awami League, on charges of attack and shooting during the anti-discrimination student movement. Lal Mia, a young man who was shot and injured while taking part in the anti-discrimination student movement on August 4, filed the case at Tangail police station on Saturday (August 31) night as the plaintiff. The plaintiff in the case Lal Mia (30) is the son of Abu Taleb of Chinamura village of Kalihati upazila.
In the case, district Awami League president and former chairman of the district council, Ekushey medalist freedom fighter Fazlur Rahman Khan Farooq has been mentioned as the order giver. Among the other 229 accused are District Awami League General Secretary Advocate Joaherul Islam Joaher, District Awami League Vice President Khandkar Ashrafuzzaman Smriti, Shahjahan Ansari and Kudrat Elahi Khan, Joint General Secretary Subhash Chandra Saha, Information and Research Secretary Solaiman Hasan, Forest and Environment Secretary Syed Mahmud Tarek Pulu, Deputy Secretary Anand Mohan Dey.
Among the accused are Tangail Municipality Councilor and Panel Mayor Hafizur Rahman Swapan, former Councilor Sajjad Ahmed, Kalihati Upazila Awami League President Mojaharul Islam Talukdar Thandu, General Secretary Anwar Hossain Mollah, Elenga Municipality Mayor Noor A Alam Siddiqui along with Awami League, Chhatra League, Jubo League, Leaders of various levels of the Sramik League. Apart from this, 100 to 150 people have been named as unknown accused in the case. However, since the fall of the government, most of the accused in the case are said to have gone into hiding.
The plaintiff mentioned in the case that the anti-discrimination student movement was taken out around 11 o'clock on August 4. When the procession reached in front of Vivekananda High School and College on the district headquarters road of the city, the accused attacked the procession with pre-planned firearms including shotguns, pistols and indigenous weapons including chapati, ramda, axes. Their bullets hit the plaintiff below the left knee. Later he was admitted to Tangail General Hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Disclosure, after the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government on August 5, three separate murder cases have been registered in district headquarters, Mirzapur and Sakhipur police stations in connection with the killing and injury of two students in the district. In these cases, a total of 8 former parliamentarians of the district, along with hundreds of leaders and activists of Awami League, were accused. In this case of injured by gunshot, only the leaders of various levels of Awami League, Chhatra League, Jubo League, Sramik League have been accused.
