Pedal-powered rickshaw drivers protested to ban battery-powered auto-rickshaws. They protested by blocking the Shahbag intersection of the capital on Monday morning. At that time, traffic stopped there.
The rickshaw pullers said that they have been demanding the ban of battery-powered auto-rickshaws for a long time. However, the authorities did not listen to them and came down the streets today.
The rickshaw pullers said that the auto rickshaw drivers leave only if the fare is 100 taka 50 taka. For them pedal rickshaw pullers don't get passengers and don't get fair fare. They cannot earn enough money by driving rickshaws all day.
They also said that auto rickshaws are not allowed in Dhaka. Still, autorickshaws are running. Foot rickshaws are valid, have numbers. A fee of Rs 300 per year is required for this. This Sheikh Hasina has paralyzed our legal rickshaws by allowing illegal auto rickshaws to run.
