India-Pakistan tensions over Indus Water Treaty

A new diplomatic tension has arisen between India and Pakistan over the Indus River Water Sharing Treaty. Pakistan has reacted strongly after India announced that it would fully utilize its share of the water.
At a press conference in Islamabad, Pakistan's Minister for Climate Change, Musaddiq Malik, said that the water of the Indus River is very important for Pakistan's agriculture, food security and economy. He claimed that no country can unilaterally limit Pakistan's water rights.
Pakistan's Information Minister Ataullah Tarar also said that the 1960 Indus Water Treaty is still in force and no party can unilaterally cancel or change it. He referred to the Indus River as Pakistan's 'lifeline'.
On the other hand, India's position is also tough. New Delhi claims that the decision to suspend the water treaty will remain in place until Pakistan takes effective steps to stop cross-border terrorism. As a result, this long-standing agreement has now become the center of new tension in the relations between the two countries.
