One of the greatest football legends of all time, Lionel Messi, is coming to India next December. He will visit three cities - Mumbai, Kolkata and Delhi from December 14 to 15. There is already a lot of excitement among Indian sports fans and Messi fans around this tour.
Indian media reported that Messi will be seen at the historic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on December 14. Not only that, Messi can also take part in a friendly cricket match there, whose opponents can be star cricketers like Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli. Discussions are underway on the matter and once everything is finalized, the organizers will announce the full schedule, according to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).
In an interview with The Indian Express, a source from the MCA said, “We will welcome Messi to the Wankhede Stadium on December 14. He may also participate in a cricket match. Apart from Dhoni and Kohli, there are chances of other star players participating.”
Messi will not only visit Mumbai but also Kolkata and Delhi during this tour. He is planned to be given a royal welcome at the historic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Messi will also inaugurate a football workshop and a “football clinic” for children in Kolkata.
According to the Times of India, a special seven-a-side football tournament will be organized in Messi’s honor, which has been named “GOAT CUP” (Greatest of All Time Cup). This will be a historic moment for football fans in Kolkata.
Currently, 38-year-old Messi plays for US club Inter Miami. He is also the captain of the Argentina national team. Argentina won the World Cup under his leadership in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Messi has not retired yet and has expressed his desire to participate in the 2026 World Cup in the United States.
There is extreme excitement among fans about Messi's arrival in India. The hashtag "#MessiInIndia" has already spread on social media. The country's sports and media have started preparing for the visit in earnest.
