BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed deep dissatisfaction with the law and order situation. He said that the people of the country have been waiting for an acceptable election for a long time. But he is not satisfied with the current law and order situation. He expressed concern over the increase in political killings and said that especially some BNP leaders have been killed in a planned manner, which has been strongly condemned, but no effective action has been taken by the government.

Mirza Fakhrul said these things while talking to journalists at his residence in Kalibari, Thakurgaon town on Friday (January 9) morning. He expressed hope that the government will play a more responsible role in this regard and that the law and order forces will have to be more active so that such violent incidents do not repeat during the elections.

Regarding the visit of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, Mirza Fakhrul said that this visit is basically a personal and humanitarian visit. Tarique Rahman will go to his home district of Bogra, from where he will go to Rangpur to visit the grave of July martyr Abu Sayeed. After that, he will visit the grave of his grandmother in Dinajpur and the graves of some martyrs in Thakurgaon. He will also participate in a mass prayer organized on the death of Begum Khaleda Zia. He said that this is more of a personal visit and a tribute than a political program.

Mirza Fakhrul also said that Tarique Rahman was welcomed by lakhs of people in Dhaka when he returned home. Now that he is going to the districts, it will naturally excite the party leaders and activists. However, he stressed that the university elections have never affected the national elections and he is hopeful that they will not do so this time either.

He alleged that during the previous fascist government, BNP student organizations, especially Chhatra Dal, were not allowed to work in universities. As a result, they could not carry out organizational activities for a long time. Nevertheless, he mentioned that BNP believes in peaceful and systematic politics to return to the democratic trend.

Regarding referendum and reforms, Mirza Fakhrul said that BNP had wanted a referendum and national elections on the same day from the beginning, which is now being implemented. The referendum on the reforms of the parliament is being held has been a demand of BNP for a long time. These reforms were presented to the nation through a 31-point proposal in 2016 and 2023. Therefore, stating that reforms are an ongoing process, he said that he sees no reason to say 'no' to it.
