In the election affidavit filed ahead of the 13th National Parliament election, BNP Standing Committee member and Dhaka-8 constituency candidate Mirza Abbas has disclosed detailed information about the weapons in his possession. According to the affidavit, he currently has 3 modern firearms, the total purchase price of which is shown as 4 lakh 10 thousand taka.
In the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission, Mirza Abbas mentioned the type and price of the weapons. The disclosure of information about multiple firearms in the personal possession of a national-level political leader on the eve of the election has created a discussion in the political arena.
Although it is possible to possess legally registered weapons according to the law, this information has caught special attention in the context of ongoing concerns about security and violence during the election. Especially in the important constituency of Dhaka-8 in the capital, the interest and curiosity of voters in security issues has increased.
The asset statement in the affidavit shows that Mirza Abbas owns a large amount of movable and immovable assets in addition to the cost of purchasing weapons. However, the information related to weapons has generated relatively more discussion among the overall list of assets.
According to the Election Commission's instructions, it is mandatory for candidates to mention information about all types of movable assets along with legal weapons in the affidavit. In line with that, Mirza Abbas has presented information about the three firearms in his possession to the Election Commission.
According to political analysts, although the disclosure of information about weapons in the election affidavit is an important aspect of transparency, it may create mixed reactions among voters. They also believe that the candidate's information about weapons in an important seat in the capital may come to the center of discussion during the election.
