Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) General Secretary (GS) SM Farhad got engaged today, Wednesday. Their marriage ceremony was held at a family function at the capital's Kantabon Mosque. The news of the engagement has created a discussion in the student politics and university arena.
It is learned that SM Farhad's life partner is Jannatul Ferdous Sanjida. She is a leader of the Chittagong University Central Students' Union (CHACSU). According to various sources, Sanjida's home is in Feni district. Although she is relatively publicity-averse in her personal life, she is known as a familiar face on campus due to her active role in student politics.
Meanwhile, DUCSU executive member Raihan Uddin confirmed the matter on his personal Facebook post at around 8:45 pm on Tuesday, the day before the engagement. He wrote in the post, "DUCSU GS SM Farhad is getting married tomorrow, Inshallah." At the same time, he prayed and wished the newlyweds a happy married life.
In addition to his duties as DUCSU, SM Farhad is also currently the president of Dhaka University branch Chhatra Shibir. He was a student of the Institute of Social Welfare, Dhaka University in the 2017-18 academic year. Since taking charge as DUCSU GS, Farhad has been in the news for his clear stance and statements on various issues.
Incidentally, Sadiq Kayem won the post of Vice President (VP) and SM Farhad won the post of General Secretary (GS) in the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) elections held on September 10. Both of them were candidates of the panel supported by Chhatra Shibir.
In the election results, Sadiq Kayem received the maximum 14,042 votes for the post of VP. His closest rival, Abidul Islam Khan, supported by Chhatra Dal, received 5,708 votes. On the other hand, SM Farhad was elected for the post of GS with the maximum 10,794 votes. His closest rival, Hamim, supported by Chhatra Dal, received 5,283 votes.
DUCSU GS Farhad's engagement news was shared on social media by his colleagues, supporters and well-wishers.
