The physical condition of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia is currently generally stable, said Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, a member of the party's standing committee.
He gave this information at a briefing on Khaleda Zia's latest physical condition on Thursday afternoon.
Dr. Zahid Hossain said that Begum Khaleda Zia is receiving regular treatment as per the advice of doctors and her physical condition is at the same level as before.
He said that Begum Khaleda Zia has been undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital since November 23. She has been kept in the Critical Care Unit (CCU) since November 27 as her condition deteriorated.
Dr. Zahid also said that an international medical board comprising doctors from Bangladesh, the UK, the US and Australia is monitoring her health condition daily. Medical activities are being conducted through joint meetings of multidisciplinary teams with foreign experts every morning under the supervision of local doctors and in the evenings, considering the time difference.
He said that Begum Khaleda Zia is currently receiving treatment as per the doctors' instructions. However, due to age-related reasons and not receiving adequate treatment for a long time, her physical complications have increased, as a result of which she is going through a difficult time.
At this time, Dr. Zahid Hossain sought prayers from the countrymen for the recovery of Begum Khaleda Zia in the court of Almighty Allah. He also said that BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman and family members are keeping a close eye on her treatment.
Gratitude was also expressed for the cooperation of the Interim Government Advisory Council, law enforcement agencies and Evercare Hospital doctors, nurses and concerned officials.
Dr. Zahid Hossain said that Begum Khaleda Zia's treatment will not cause any disruption in the medical services of other patients in the hospital. Everyone's cooperation is sought in this regard.
It is to be noted that former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia has been suffering from various health problems including liver and kidney complications, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis and infections for a long time.
