Mirza Abbas, Aman Ullah Aman, and 45 BNP leaders acquitted in two sabotage cases

A court has ordered the acquittal of a total of 45 BNP leaders, including Mirza Abbas, a member of the BNP standing committee and the party's nominated candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency, and Aman Ullah Aman, an advisor to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, in two sabotage cases filed at the capital's Paltan and Shahjahanpur police stations.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehdi Hasan issued the order after hearing the charge-making in the cases on Wednesday (December 17).

Mirza Abbas's lawyers Abu Bakar Siddique and Mohiuddin Chowdhury confirmed the matter and said that a date had been set for the hearing of the charge-making in two separate cases at the Paltan and Shahjahanpur police stations. During the hearing, the court granted the request for acquittal when the accused requested it.

Notable leaders who were released include BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Vice Chairman Abdullah Al Noman, Chairperson's Advisory Council member Advocate Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP former convener and Dhaka-12 constituency candidate Saiful Alam Nirab, BNP Joint Secretary General Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel, BNP Central Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, Jubo Dal's former organizing secretary Ishaq Sarkar, Dhaka Metropolitan South Jubo Dal convener Khandaker Enamul Haque Enam, Dhaka-18 constituency candidate SM Jahangir Hossain, BNP National Executive Committee member Mamun Hasan, Volunteer Affairs Secretary Mir Sarafat Ali Safu, BNP nominated candidate for Dhaka-9 constituency Habibur Rashid Habib and many others.

The lawyers said that after reviewing the case documents and the complaint, the court felt that there was not sufficient and acceptable evidence to frame charges against the accused. That is why they were ordered to be acquitted.

BNP lawyers and leaders have commented on the court's decision as a reflection of justice. They said that these cases were filed with political motives, which has been proven in the court order.

Meanwhile, BNP leaders and activists have been seen expressing relief and satisfaction at the news of the acquittal. Party sources said that they see the court's order as positive for upcoming political activities and election preparations.
