The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has provided financial assistance to the families of 16 people who died in the horrific fire that broke out in Mirpur on October 14. The matter was announced through a post published on BNP's verified Facebook page on Thursday.
The post said that this assistance was provided on behalf of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman. BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi provided the financial assistance as Tarique Rahman's representative. The party's Sports Secretary Aminul Haque was present at the time.
Meanwhile, family members, terrified and worried about the fire incident, used to gather around the burnt-out garment factory every day in search of their dead relatives. The garment factories on the second and third floors of the four-story building were damaged in the accident. 16 bodies were recovered from different places on the second and third floors, which were handed over to the families on October 19.
The explosion and fire in Mirpur have caused widespread grief and security concerns among locals. BNP's financial assistance is being cited as a symbol of standing with the families of the victims.
