BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the news of coordinators demanding extortion has deeply distressed him. Speaking at the inauguration of Jubo Dal’s Graffiti Arts in front of the National Museum in Shahbagh on Monday (July 28) afternoon, he said, “This is the situation within a year of the mass uprising! The youth who will build the country are now extorting. Did we want such a future?”
He expressed his anger and said, “If the decline starts so quickly, then what is the future? The whole of Bangladesh is now looking at the youth. After the fall of the Hasina government, people were full of hope. But now it is sad, I cannot say out loud that this country will be rebuilt. Rather, a situation is being created that can once again provide opportunities for fascists.”
Questioning the progress of the case against Hasina's government, Mirza Fakhrul said, "A year has passed. Why haven't those who killed people in public been arrested? I haven't seen anything about Hasina's trial."
Talking about the BNP's reform process, he said, "We are providing maximum cooperation regarding the reform, but there is no real progress from the government. Rather, they are trying to put us in trouble by creating pressure on us. However, the people of the country know how to fight. As they fought in the past, they will fight in the future as well."
He also said, "Tareq Rahman is now trying to rebuild Bangladesh. No one party or student community was alone in this fight. The July Uprising was successful due to the participation of children, the elderly, farmers, rickshaw pullers - everyone. To bring about real change, the opinions of all classes of people must be accepted."
Emphasizing the importance of the role of the young generation, he said, “The entire country is now looking at the youth. But if extortion, greed, and corruption enter among them, the dream of democracy and the hope of a developed Bangladesh will be shattered. So now is the time for self-criticism.”
Mirza Fakhrul’s statement has created a storm of discussion in the political arena. He has also given a strong message of self-criticism to his own party, which is being considered a new message in the political arena.
