The United States has announced nearly $199 million in new aid for Rohingya refugees. Azra Zeya, the US Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights, announced this support at an event organized on the sidelines of the UN session on the Rohingya crisis.
Azra Zeya announced nearly $199 million in new aid for Rohingya refugees and their host communities in Bangladesh. The funding includes $70 million from the Department of State's Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration and more than $129 million from USAID. This U.S. assistance will save Rohingya lives and help provide protection, shelter, and food to those forced to flee violence and persecution.
The US government has provided more than $2.5 billion in aid to the Rohingya since 2017, including more than $2.1 billion to Bangladesh. The United States is committed to providing assistance to crisis-hit communities in Bangladesh and the region. At the same time, the United States called on other donors to continue their support.
