Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Tamim Iqbal has expressed uncertainty over the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) taking place this year. According to him, the BCB wants to move towards a more organized and professional management rather than rushing in organizing the tournament.
In an interview with a local media outlet, Tamim said regarding the BPL, "BPL may not happen this year. The chairman of the BPL Governing Council can say it better."
"I want to organize the BPL in a organized manner"
When asked if there is any plan to stop the BPL completely, the BCB president said that his personal desire is to organize the tournament in a more planned manner.
He said that the main topic of discussion regarding the BPL should be cricket on the field, wins and losses and the players' performance. He does not want the tournament's image to be damaged by financial problems or negative news.
According to Tamim, although the BPL is a franchise-based tournament, it is a tournament of Bangladesh in the international arena. Therefore, it is also the responsibility of the BCB to protect its image.
Plans to organize it well in 2027
Tamim was also asked whether the preparation of the national team will be negatively affected if the BPL is not held this year, with the 2028 T20 World Cup in sight.
In response, he said that although it is not possible to organize it this year, the BPL can be organized better in 2027. He also mentioned that there are other T20 tournaments for the country's cricketers.
Talks about Dhaka's club cricket
Regarding Dhaka's club cricket, the BCB president said that the Dhaka Premier League and the third division cricket have been held recently. The new season will also start soon.
Tamim said that discussions are also underway on the issue of financial assistance to the players concerned as some teams in the second division did not participate. He also assured that the issue will be resolved after discussions.
