ASI of the then special branch of the police (SB) went to a judge's house to ask for a bribe after verifying the information of the passport application. The High Court upheld the two-year prison sentence given by the trial court to Sadequl Islam.
In the verdict, the high court said that police verification is required for various purposes including passport of citizens. Citizens often have to undergo considerable financial and emotional suffering to get this police verification report. This case is one of its examples.
A single High Court bench ruled on August 22, 2023, rejecting the accused's appeal against the judgment of the trial court. The full 26-page copy of the judgment was released on Saturday.

On March 21, 2019, the verdict was given by Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, special judge number nine of Dhaka. The verdict sentenced the accused to one year imprisonment under section 419 of the Penal Code and one year without labor under section 5 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Later, Sadekul appealed to the High Court against this.

After the investigation, on May 4, 2017, the investigating officer of the case, ACC Deputy Director Rahila Khatun filed the charge sheet. After the trial, the judicial court gave a verdict in 2019. On appeal against that judgment, the High Court ruled in 2023. The verdict rejected Sadekul's appeal and upheld the sentence. Sadekul has been ordered to surrender within 30 days of the verdict.
