Amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, a loud explosion was heard near Erbil International Airport in Iraq. A journalist from the Agence France-Presse (AFP) news agency reported this information from the scene on Monday (March 2). It is reported that members of the US-led coalition are stationed at the airport.

Earlier, an AFP photographer said that a drone had been shot down by air defense systems near the airport. Since the start of the US and Israeli military campaign against Iran, there have been several drone interceptions in Erbil's skies. The city also has a large US consulate complex, which has increased security risks.

Meanwhile, explosions are also being reported in other countries in the Gulf region. Multiple loud noises were heard in the United Arab Emirates' capital Abu Dhabi and Qatar's capital Doha. Qatar-based media outlet Al Jazeera reported that about six powerful explosions were heard in Doha, which is believed to indicate an ongoing attack.

It should be noted that since February 28, there have been reports of extensive damage to various Iranian installations in joint attacks by the United States and Israel. Iranian semi-official news agencies Tasnim News Agency and Fars News Agency claimed that the country's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the attack. However, no independent confirmation has been found on this matter.

According to analysts, due to the Israeli and US operations, Iran is now carrying out missile and drone attacks targeting various Gulf countries and important installations in the Middle East. As a result, the security situation in the entire region is becoming increasingly complicated and instability in the airspace is increasing.
