18 coaches of passenger train derailed in India, 22 injured

Another train accident happened in India. 18 coaches were derailed. At least two people were killed and at least 20 injured in the accident.

In a report, the Indian media NDTV reported that the Howrah-CSMT Express from Howrah to Mumbai met with an accident near Chakradharpur in Jharkhand around 4:15 am local time on Tuesday (July 30).

News agency PTI reported that at least 18 coaches of the train derailed. So far two people have lost their lives and at least 20 passengers have been injured in the accident. It is feared that the number of injured may increase.

The Indian Railways said that the rescue team has already been sent to the accident site.

Out of the 18 derailed coaches, 16 are passenger coaches. Out of the remaining two, one is the electricity connection compartment of the train and the other is the pantry car. The injured passengers were rescued from the accident site and sent to Chakradharpur for treatment.

It is not yet clear how the accident happened. A freight train also derailed near the place where the Mumbai-bound train met with an accident, a senior Indian Railways official said. It is not yet known if there is any connection between these two accidents. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Several trains have been canceled due to the accident. Also some train routes have been changed. Some train journeys have also been shortened.
