At least five people were injured in a rare Ukrainian drone strike in a suburb of the Russian capital Moscow on Friday (October 24). The strike hit the 14th floor of a residential building in the Krasnogorsk district, according to Moscow region governor Andrey Vorobiev. Among the injured was a young boy.

AFP journalists saw a large hole in the facade of the building and rubble inside apartments after the attack. “The explosion was loud. It made a sound like a car crash,” said local resident Maxim.

The Russian Defense Ministry said it had shot down 111 Ukrainian drones overnight. While most of the drones were shot down or captured, the strikes left at least 1,500 residents without power.

Meanwhile, two people were killed and at least 17 others injured in Russian shelling of the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson. Russia has intensified its bombardment of Ukraine's energy infrastructure ahead of winter, cutting power supplies across the country, including in Kiev, causing widespread blackouts.

Kiev's air force said it had fired 128 drones at Moscow last night. Ukraine has also been attacking its energy infrastructure and oil refineries in an attempt to cut off Russia's export earnings.
