Umpire Sharfuddaula Saikat's resignation finally takes effect, contract with BCB ends

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has finally executed the resignation of Bangladesh's international umpire Sharfuddaula Ibn Shaheed Saikat. This officially ends his long-standing contract with the board.
It is learned that Saikat submitted his resignation on April 21, 2025, to withdraw from the BCB contract. However, as the board did not implement it at that time, he continued to perform his duties and receive the benefits due to him under the previous contract. Finally, his resignation has been implemented from April this year.
Although he regularly served as a member of the ICC Elite Panel in international cricket, Saikat expressed dissatisfaction with various irregularities in the country's domestic cricket. It is known that he decided to cancel his contract with BCB in that context.
Meanwhile, even after resigning, he has expressed his interest in continuing to umpire in the country's domestic cricket. However, sources said he is not interested in working under the BCB's new contractual structure.
It is worth noting that in 2025, Saikat announced his withdrawal from the BCB's contract in protest against the decision to reduce the ban of cricketer Towhid Hridoy in a domestic match. However, the board did not accept his application at that time. Almost a year later, his formal relationship with the BCB ended as his resignation letter took effect.
Currently, in addition to fulfilling his ICC duties in international cricket, he plans to continue working as an umpire in domestic cricket in the future.
