The government of Canada has reiterated its decision not to allow the export of any military equipment to Israel in the context of the humanitarian disaster in Gaza.
In a statement on Saturday (August 2), Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand said, “No new licenses have been approved since January 2024 for the export of items that have the potential to be used in Gaza, and that suspension is still in effect.”
A recent report published on July 29 claimed that weapons were still flowing from Canada to Israel. In this regard, the Foreign Minister said, “Several information in the report is misleading and not consistent with reality.”
He explained, “The bullets that are called in the report are actually paintballs. Moreover, the function of the devices was mainly to render firearms ineffective.”
Anand also said, “Even before the license suspension, no Canadian company had directly or indirectly supplied mortars to Israel.”
He warned, “Anyone exporting military goods without a license will be subject to fines, seizure of goods and criminal prosecution.”
Finally, he firmly stated, “We never want Canadian-made weapons to be used in the Gaza conflict.”
