President Donald Trump's administration has decided to significantly reduce US funding for humanitarian aid abroad. As a result of this move, about 14 million people may be at risk of premature death by 2030, according to the medical journal 'The Lancet Medical Journal'. The study said that one-third of those at risk are children. As a result, future generations will be the most affected.

Earlier, in March this year, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the Trump administration had canceled more than 80 percent of the programs of the International Development Agency USAID. This decision to reduce funding is having a huge impact on ongoing aid activities around the world. David Racella, co-author of the study, said in a statement, "This shock will be as catastrophic for many countries as a pandemic or a major war."

As the world's largest humanitarian aid provider, the United States used to work on various contract-based projects in more than 60 countries. However, as part of the administration's cost-cutting policy, many programs are being closed and some programs are being planned to be run 'more efficiently'. The US side is saying that it will move forward with a new structure in consultation with Congress.

Meanwhile, a UN official told the BBC that the impact of the US funding cuts is already being seen in various regions. Millions of people are currently facing an acute food crisis and are starving in refugee camps in Kenya. It is feared that the humanitarian aid shortage could become catastrophic not only in Kenya but also in many other developing countries.
