Tensions between India and Pakistan are intensifying after the killing of 26 people in Pahalgam in Indian-controlled Jammu and Kashmir. In the meantime, there have been multiple exchanges of fire in the border areas of the two countries. In such a tense situation, residents of Indian border villages are busy preparing bunkers for fear of a possible major attack.

Indian media outlet Bhaskar Live reported that the situation in Poonch division of Jammu and Kashmir is the most tense. Especially in the village of Salotri, located at the end of India, there has been firing for two consecutive days. This has spread panic among the villagers. To protect themselves from possible attacks, they are cleaning and preparing community bunkers built with government assistance.

Since the village of Salotri is located very close to the Line of Control (LoC), the panic among the people here is even greater. However, despite the fear, they are bravely preparing themselves.

A government official told the media, “Pakistani soldiers fired small arms at the Indian positions. The Indian army responded strongly. However, no casualties have been reported so far.”

Local residents said that the Indian government has built strong, bulletproof bunkers for them. These bunkers are built about 10 feet deep in the ground, which is capable of ensuring their safety during shelling and firing.

A villager said, “We live in the border area. The bunkers that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has built for civilians are very strong and safe. We are grateful to the Prime Minister. Now we feel safe in our village.”

He added, “What the armed attackers did in Pahalgam is cowardly. Our Hindu brothers have been brutally killed. It is necessary to respond to this. When the Indian army reacts, we will have to go to a safe place. That is why we are keeping our bunkers ready.”

Meanwhile, during the Kargil war, 217 residents of Hunderman village near the LoC took shelter in a bunker, which is still preserved. However, there were no bunkers in Salotri village at that time. The locals had to flee to Poonch town. Now, thanks to the newly constructed bunkers, they are getting safe shelter in their own village.
