This information was reported by AFP in a report on Tuesday, citing a statement from the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). The head of the finance department of Lebanon-based Islamist armed political group Hezbollah was killed in an Israeli airstrike.

He was killed in an Israeli air strike in Syria on Monday night, the IDF said in a statement. The Israel Defense Forces did not release the names of the dead.

The IDF statement said that Iran regularly pays Hezbollah a portion of the proceeds from its oil sales. The deceased person was responsible for collecting this money from Tehran and delivering it to Hezbollah's fund. Besides, he was the top commander of the 4400 unit of the group. This unit of Hezbollah is located in Syria.

IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said in a message, "The commander had been serving as Hezbollah's chief funding officer for the past several years."

On the other hand, in a separate statement, the Syrian Ministry of Defense said that the Israeli Air Force bombed a vehicle in the capital Damascus on Monday. The driver and a passenger in the car were killed on the spot. However, the Syrian Ministry of Defense did not reveal the name of the deceased.

Iran-backed Hezbollah is currently the largest armed political group in the world. This Lebanon-based group was established in 1985 with direct support from Iran. The group has been committed to the destruction of the state of Israel since its inception.

On the other side of Israel's northern border is southern Lebanon. The region is Hezbollah's main base and houses most of the group's military installations. But Hezbollah also has branches in Palestine, Syria, Jordan and other countries in the Middle East. In fact, Hezbollah is currently the largest armed Islamic group in the world in terms of military installations, number of fighters and stockpiled weapons.

After the start of Israel's war with Hamas, the group that controls the Gaza Strip on October 7, Hezbollah started firing rockets and missiles at various installations in the northern part of Israel in solidarity with Hamas. Israel also began to respond. More than 2,000 people have lost their lives in Lebanon in the conflict between the two sides in the last one year. Among these victims, the number of women and children is more than 500. However, the IDF claims that at least 940 Hezbollah commanders and fighters are among the dead.

The Israel Air Force started operations in Lebanon from last September 20. Several top commanders including Hezbollah's main leader and Secretary General Hasan Nasrullah were killed in the nearly 10-day campaign. The highest level of the group's chain of command has almost collapsed.

After the air campaign phase, the IDF ground forces started the operation in South Lebanon from last September 30. In an earlier announcement, the IDF said the operation would be limited and localized in villages in southern Lebanon bordering Israel. However, the IDF has not yet given any information or indication regarding how long this operation will last.

More than 60,000 people have already been forced to leave their homes in Lebanon due to the operation of the Israeli forces.

The IDF said in a statement on Saturday that Israel's air force had destroyed more than 120 Hezbollah military installations, several tunnels and 20 arsenals during its nearly month-long operation in southern Lebanon.
