Man sentenced to life imprisonment in Benapole heroin case

The court has ordered life imprisonment and a fine of Tk 20,000 to Maniruzzaman Sweet in the case of heroin smuggling identified in Benapole.

Judge Taslim Arif of the Additional District and Sessions Judge III Court of Jessore gave this judgment on Wednesday, October 16. Convicted Sweet is the son of Kabir Hussain of Dighirpar village in Benapole. This was confirmed by Additional PP Asaduzzaman.

According to the relevant sources, Benapole Port Thana police arrested Moniruzzaman Sweet from Sadipur village on February 20, 2017 at around 8 am. One hundred grams of heroin was recovered from him. In this incident, SI Ehsanul Haque filed a case under Narcotics Control Act against Sweet at Benapole Port Police Station. After the investigation, SI Safiqul Islam Sardar submitted the charge sheet to the court on March 30, 2017. Yesterday, in the presence of the accused, the judge ordered life imprisonment and a fine of Tk 20,000. In default of payment of the fine, he has been sentenced to another six months imprisonment.
